Popular Indian bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who plays of Mumbai Indians in Indian Premier League (IPL), picked up two wickets in India vs New Zealand 3rd T20 match. The right arm medium pacer played crucial role in Indian team’s victory against the antagonist team.
The 20 overs match was played on 7th November 2017 at Greenfield International Stadium, which is situated in Thiruvananthapuram. After winning the toss, New Zealand opted to field first. Due to the hindrance of rain, each inning was reduced to 8 overs.
Batting first, Indian cricketers in top order of batting lineup could not perform. Opener batsmen Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan failed to score double digit runs individually. Hitting 1 four each, Sharma scored 8 runs in 9 balls while Dhawan scored 6 runs in 6 balls.
Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer were the men to bat next. Kohli hit 1 six and 1 four to score 13 runs in 6 balls. Iyer, who was batting at the other end of strike, walked back to pavilion after scoring 6 runs in 6 balls. Manish Pandey replaced him as the next batsman and scored 17 runs in 11 balls.
Meanwhile, Indian skipper Kohli lost his wicket and all rounder cricketer Hardik Pandya came to bat next. The right arm cricketer scored 14 runs in 10 balls. First inning ended with Indian team scoring 67 runs in 8 overs with the loss of 5 wickets. New Zealand’s bowlers Tim Southee and Ish Sodhi picked up two wickets each while Trent Boult took one wicket.
New Zealand’s top order of batting lineup had a stuttering start in second inning of the game. Opener batsmen Martin Guptil and Colin Munro could not perform well in the initial stage of inning and lost their wickets too early. Scoring 1 run in 3 balls, Guptil lost his wicket and the team’s captain Kane Williamson stepped into the field to bat next.
Williamson scored 8 runs in 10 balls. Meanwhile, Munro lost his wicket after scoring 7 runs in 6 balls and Glenn Philips replaced him as the next cricketer. Philips hit 2 fours and scored 11 runs in 9 balls. Colin de Grandhome batted next after Williamson’s dismissal and scored 17 runs in 10 balls.
Bottom order of New Zealand’s batting lineup could not perform well in the end and failed to chase the target of 68 runs in 8 overs. The team ended up scoring 61 runs in 48 balls with the loss of 6 wickets. Indian cricket team won the match by 6 runs. Apart from Jasprit Bumrah, Indian bowlers Kuldeep Yadav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar showcased excellent bowling performance in this match and picked up one wicket each.
