First match of tenth season of IPL was played between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on 5th April 2017. The T20 cricket game was played at Rajiv Gandhi International stadium, which is situated in Hyderabad. Batting first, Sunrisers Hyderabad scored 207 runs in first inning. Royal Challengers Bangalore failed to chase the mighty target of 208 runs in 120 balls and lost their first match in this season of Indian Premier League.
After winning the toss, Royal Challengers Bangalore elected to bowl first. Opener batsmen of Sunrisers Hyderabad stepped into the ground to start the inning. Skipper David Warner and his companion Shikhar Dhawan gave started scoring runs for the team in initial phase of the match. After scoring 14 runs in 8 balls, left handed Australian cricketer lost his wicket and walked back to pavilion in 2nd over of the inning.
Moises Henriques was the cricketer to bat next. Partnership between Moises and Dhawan took their team’s total score beyond triple digit figure. Hitting 5 fours, Shikhar Dhawan scored 40 runs in 31 balls while his companion hit 3 fours and 2 sixes to score 52 runs in 37 balls. After Dhawan lost his wicket in 11th over of the inning, Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh came to bat next. The left handed all rounder cricketer add more runs to the team’s overall score.
Hitting 7 fours and 3 sixes, Yuvraj scored 62 runs in 27 balls. Meanwhile, Henriques lost his wicket in 16th over and Deepak Hooda came to bat next. After completing half century, Yuvraj Singh could not score more runs further. He was bowled out by Tymal Mills in 19th over. Ben Cutting replaced Yuvraj as the next batsman and played crucial role in taking team’s total score beyond 200 runs.
Partnership between Hooda and Cutting helped the team in ending up with a huge score. Hitting 1 six, Hooda scored 16 runs in 12 balls while Cutting smashed 2 sixes to score 16 runs in 6 balls. In 20 overs, Hyderabad’s cricket team scored 207 runs. RCB’s bowler Aniket Choudhary picked up three wickets while his teammate Tymal Mills took two wickets. Rest all pacers and spinners went wicketless in the first inning of IPL Match 1.
RCB started the huge run-chase with a good start. Known for hitting monstrous shots on the ground, Chris Gayle came to bat as the opener batsman. The Caribbean cricketer was accompanied by Indian cricketer Mandeep Singh in early stage of the 2nd inning. Hitting 3 sixes and 2 fours, Gayle scored 32 runs in 21 balls while his companion – Mandeep Singh scored 24 runs in 16 balls. Mandeep hit five fours while scoring those runs.
After Singh lost his wicket in 6th over, Travis Head came to bat next. Hitting 3 fours, Travis scored 30 runs in 22 balls. Meanwhile, Gayle lost his wicket in 7th over and Kedar Jadhav replaced him as the next batsman. Jadhav hit 4 fours and 1 six to score 31 runs in 16 balls. After loosing wicket in 12th over, Jadhav returned to pavilion and team’s captain Shane Watson arrived in the ground to bat next. The right handed Australian cricketer scored 22 runs in 17 balls and failed to score the runs required for the victory.
Meanwhile, Head lost his wicket in 13th over of the match and Sachin Baby came to bat next. Scoring just one run 3 balls, Baby walked back to pavilion and Stuart Binny replaced him as the next batsman. Hitting one six, Binny scored 11 runs in 10 balls and lost his wicket 17th over. Loosing wicket in following over, Shane Watson also walked back to pavilion. Players in the bottom order of batting lineup could not score the runs required for winning the match. The team ended up scoring 172 runs in 19.4 overs with the loss of 10 wickets. Yuvraj Singh bagged ‘Player of the Match’ award for his excellent batting performance.
